Our Origins
The San Diego Ski Guide began as a humble four-page newsletter circulated within the Carlsbad Ski Club in the late 1960s. Founded by alpine veterans Elias Montgomery and Helena Ross, it was born out of a desire for honest appraisals of Northern mountains from a Southern perspective.
In 1994, we transitioned to the digital sphere, becoming the first dedicated regional ski portal in the United States. Today, we remain an independent publishing authority, untethered by Resort sponsorship.

Every resort in our Top 5 undergoes a rigorous 48-hour silent review. Our teams visit anonymously, paying for their own tickets and testing everything from grooming consistency to the quality of slope-side rentals.
